Besides the common causes of slowness (full disk, too many startup programs), laptops suffer more from overheating, because ventilation is more limited, and from batteries that no longer sustain peak performance for long.

Step 1: Clean up startup

Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc), go to the Startup tab, and disable programs that aren't essential day to day — this alone already reduces the time until the laptop becomes usable after turning on.

Step 2: Check the power mode

Under Settings > System > Power, many laptops come configured in power-saving mode by default, which reduces processor performance. Switching to "Best performance" (when plugged in) can produce a noticeable gain.

Step 3: Check the temperature

Laptops accumulate dust in the vents over time, which raises the internal temperature and makes the processor reduce its own speed to protect itself (thermal throttling). If the laptop gets very hot and slows down during extended use, physically cleaning the fans usually solves it.

Step 4: Free up disk space

With the disk almost full, Windows loses room for temp files and virtual memory. Free up at least 10-15% of total capacity, prioritizing old installers and the downloads folder.
